The cushion compact is Korea’s biggest contribution to base makeup since, well, base makeup. But between BB cushions, CC cushions, and “glow” versus “cover” finishes, buying your first one can feel like a quiz you didn’t study for. Here’s the cheat sheet.

First — what is a cushion?
A sponge soaked in liquid base, in a compact, with a puff. You press, you pat, you’re done. The genius is dosage control: thin, buildable layers instead of one heavy coat — which is exactly how the “your skin but better” look happens.
BB vs CC vs foundation cushions
- BB (blemish balm) — skincare-leaning, light-to-medium cover, dewy. The everyday default.
- CC (colour correcting) — tone-evening first, cover second. Best if your concern is dullness or redness rather than spots. The VANT 36.5 Air Touch CC is this category’s overachiever — SPF40 PA+++ included.
- Cover cushion — foundation-level pigment in cushion form. The CMUSE Magic Cover (SPF50+) hides what needs hiding and still reads as skin.

Three rules for cushion happiness
- Press, don’t drag. The puff pats product into skin; dragging streaks it.
- Half-pump logic. One press of the puff on the sponge does your whole face. Build only where needed.
- Wash the puff weekly. It’s a sponge touching your face daily. Enough said.
Which finish for you?
Dry or dull skin → glow finish (CC). Oily or long days → cover finish, set lightly. Both of ours are in the Flawless Base Set — compare the whole edit there.
